Low THD bandpass-based oscillator using multilevel hard limiter
نویسندگان
چکیده
In order to reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) of a bandpass-based oscillator, instead of using a conventional hard limiter, a multilevel hard limiter (MHL) is proposed which inherently removes the third and the fifth-order harmonics from the frequency spectrum of its output signal. The input–output characteristic of the proposed MHL contains slope values of only zero and infinity, making it easy to implement. The optimal height and width of each stair of the MHL characteristic are derived. Measurement results show that for the same bandpass filter, the proposed approach shows 14 dB improvement in the THD of the output signal with respect to the conventional two-level hard limiter (comparator). The oscillator has been fabricated in TSMC 0.35 mm CMOS process and the die occupies an area of about 3.15 mm. The oscillator chip prototype operates at the frequency of 10.7 MHz, consumes 40 mA current from a 3.3 V power supply and yields a THD of 253 dB.

متن کاملLow Frequency Active Tuned Oscillator Using Simulated Inductor
The generation of sine wave at low frequency is very tedious because the size of the inductors used in the circuit is very large and bulky. Hence the inductor is replaced with the simulated inductor. This study deals with the generation of sine wave from an active tuned oscillator which consists of the simulated inductor and capacitor. The oscillator makes use of the basic blocks of a band pass...

Converters are used in the utility interface of renewable energy system to reduce harmonic contents in line current/voltage and to increase reliability. These converters suffer from high level of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in the utility line currents/voltages which creates a lot of problems in the power system. In this paper selective harmonics are eliminated to reduce the THD, that is, t...

متن کاملMitigation Transformer Inrush Current Using Modified Transient Current Limiter
This study presents a modified transient current limiter (MTCL) for mitigation the inrush current of transformers. The MTCL is based on conventional transient current limiter (TCL), which, its configuration is modified to overcome the TCL drawbacks of operation. The proposed MTCL offers lower power losses and voltage/current THD during normal operation mode. It needs only one limiting reactor i...
